Sleeping between six to nine hours per night gets you higher quality of life and  a less depressive state. However sleeping too much , more than nine hours, would have a negative impact according to Dr Charles Bae, neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic Sleep Disorders Centre in Ohio . He’s the principal investigator of a study conducted between 2008 and 2010, on 10,654 patients.

Study shows that a nightly sleep duration of six to nine hours is associated with treatment of sleep disorders such as insomnia, narcolepsy and sleep apnea.

Sleeping less than 6 hours and /or more than 9 hours would produce similar effects like decrease in the quality of life and increase in depression. Most adults need between 7-8 hours of sleep per night in order to feel  rested and have a  better cognitive state.
